Hunched under the small overhanging meant as a roof was a large cat, dejected looking and miserable. The rain fell in thick sheets, wind carrying it sideways under the small shelter. Not that it mattered much anyways, without the wind the small wooden beam would barely shield his head, let alone his now soaked frame.
The cat had given up shaking his coat dry long ago, realizing the futility of it and now too miserable to care. He looked at the closed steel door that would take him into the sheltered cage inside and wondered how much longer the zoo would be open today. His spotted coat was already soaked through and he shivered as water began to penetrate into the lower layers and reach his skin.
The enclosure itself was small and the water began to puddle on the hard concrete. With a heavy sigh the cat whom zookeepers had named Samson lay down in the water and looked up at the wall that sealed off the pen. Could he fly or even jump a little higher scaling the wall would give him wanted freedom.

She almost snarled at the foul weather. Stupid rain...today she had planned to stretch out in front of the heater, on a soft blanket, and simply relax.
Instead, she got an odd phone call, form an odd person, and here she was...at the gods forsaken city zoo. She pulled the brim of her wide, leather hat down further, keeping as much of the rain and cold out as possible. For the same reason she strode through the emptying in a trench coat that fell around her ankles...well, that's what everyone would think anyway.
Steel bars...endless rows of them...they really got her hackles up. In a truly nervous gesture she licked her thin lips and looked around. "Cat Exhibit. Wonderful, with my luck it's a ruddy beast rather than anything worth this..." she snarled to herself. Would serve you right, listening to some person that calls you and knows what you are...then following their advice to go to the zoo...
Her slit pupiled eyes narrowed as she came around the cage corner to the front of the exhibit. "Hello..." she purred, impressed despite the cats bedraggled state. Yeah, nice cat..is it worth coming out in the rain?? she would have to see.

He was licking his paws, raw and calloused from the concrete, when a figure emerged from the rain. Great, he sighed, someone's actually come out today to stare. Good thing they kept the place open, wouldn't want to miss out on one admission.
He was to annoyed to even notice her tone or features, instead he let his head fall into the puddle and sputtered bubbles.

She leaned her head on the bars, hat and all. He was ignoring her! Well...she couldn't blame him truthfully.
"I guess with a snout full of water you can't smell me. Just as well, I doubt you're worth my time"

He stared at her questioningly, lifting his head from the puddle water running down his chin and whiskers. It was an effort but he got to his feet and slowly approached the edge of the enclosure, tail flicking in interest.
Once there he stared at her intently then taking in a large breath gave a long full bodied shake. Water flowed off his coat and splashed through the bars. He chuckled and nodded to the animal in the cage behind the figure, the one who had really held his attention during his approach. Giving another flick of his tail he returned back to the small aclove, "Waste of your time...ha."

She felt herself twitching slightly, water beading down her coat. "Ha yourself you mange ridden muskrat chaser. I'm no longer feeling quite so adventurous, I'm going to go back home, stretch out, drink something warm and forget about you, strange phonecalls, and possible sleepers. Good day" she growled.
Had her current form had a tail, it would be twitching and waving in vexation. Possible sleep, sure, right, if he is, he can stay that way. she turned to leave.

His ears flicked back as she spoke and he turned around again to face her. She had understood him...he stared at her oddly, watching her walk away before snapping out of it enough to call out to her. "Wait."

"Wretch?" he snarled, "What else can I be in this place? Who are you?" he kept his distance this time, studying her carefully and for the first time getting small traces of her scent. They were diluted from the water but enough to raise his eyebrows in confusion and shock.

She turned to face the bars again, lifting the hat enough to reveal her slit pupiled eyes "You could live up to your breed, showing disdain and dignity. Not all caged animals become wretches. Trust me, I speak from experience. As for who I am, I am Mrrii" she rolled the R's deep in her throat, almost a purr.
"...and I came to verify an odd communication I received. Who, are you?"

The leopard bowed his head and frowned. He had tried so very hard to keep up his pride, for so very long. But it had been slipping away, along with any hope of leaving the zoo and so he had become bitter, and even mean.
He felt he should appologize but couldn't find the words to he answered her question, "They call me Samson."

Despite her coat she was getting cold. Bejanxed weather...she began to pace in front the bars, moving to keep warm. She rolled her eyes at his answer "I didn't ask what you were called. I asked who you were. Large difference."
She paused a moment, noticing a difference in his bearing "Better. Chin up a bit higher and you may yet be mistaken for a feline."

He snorted and grumbled to himself after her comment but when he turned back to her his head was elevated a bit more, "I'm a leopard, born in a cage and trapped in a zoo. There is very little else about me, that I know of. Perhaps you can tell me more?" He expected no answer to his question and believed his own answer would cause the woman to leave.
Which is just fine with me, he thought bitterly, she's just another visitor peering through the bars. He felt some pain with the thought, knowing it wasn't true and really wishing he could give her more so that she might stay awhile longer. His whiskers drooped a moment then he forced them to rise as he questioned her, "What about you? Who are you Mrrii??"

Mrii leaned aginst the bars and let a hand slide through "Oh, I'm just Mrii. No one special...I used ot think I was born and raised in a zoo too...then I found out that I had just...forgotten."
She paused a moment, remembering "It's easy to forget...to get lost in fur...simpler..."

"Forgotten?" he stared at her confused and curios, "What are you talking about? Why are you here?" He stepped a bit closer, curiosity moving him forward.
