Eyiron spurred his horse and pulled ahead of the group, all of whom were pushing desperatly forward towards the growing ploom of smoke in the distance. The band had been patrolling the borders when a growing fear and anxiousness of trouble at home had finally turned them around and back. It was then, while riding home, that they spotted the black cloud on the horizon. From there they had rode hard and fast trying to reach the village and whatever chaos and trouble was happening there.
Even as they drew nearer, however and even as he pulled his sword from its leather sheath he knew they would be too late. In his heart he knew there was already nothing left.

Illiyeera followed close on Eyiron's heels, so close in fact that the hoses tail whipped her face, but that wasn't what was causing her eyes to water "Endimeera..." she whispered.
Her sister's name.
Mother of her name sake, keeper of her house, best friend...nurturer...and she was dead. She'd felt it when they turned back.
Dead because she, huntress of the house, wasn't there...

Nikron lagged behind the three of them, fiddling with the bow strapped across her back. He had neither many family in the village, nor had he ever felt so deep a connection to his place of birth...but now, seeing the cloud in the distance and sensing its destruction...well, it hurt. "Damn it all to hell..."

He topped the ridge that was the last barrier that kept the village out of site and a place he would usually stop at, looking out over his home in appreciation and relief to be back. This time though, he did not stop. Instead he thundered down the hill and straight into the burning wreck and began shouting and searching.
"Inus! Elwyn!" The fire roared and smoke thickened but aside from these there was no other movements or sounds.

Illiyeera's gaze swept the burning village and she halted her horse on the ridge, fingering her own bow an dstifling sobs.
No life.
No animals, no birds, everythingwas silent and still...
"NO one left" she murmured...her horse shivering under her.

Nayii jumped from the branch of the tall tree where she had hidden. She winced having landed on a pinecone, but the pain was lost in the torrent of silent tears that were already running down her face.
"Illiyeera!" she yelled, running to the riders she had seen coming from the trees. "Illiyeera! They came too fast! I was- I was in the garden! Your sister saw them! She yelled to me! She-" Nayii stopped, suddenly attacked by a coughing fit was was exasterbated by her cries.

Illiyeera blinked, her gaze snapping away from the burning town and pinning the figure.
One of the house had lived?
Why...why hadn't she sensed them?
She slipped from the horse and gently touched the gils cheek, awareness of life, though pained life, flowing with the touch. Perhaps the overall death had hidden her...
Or perhaps her sister had hidden her...
"You're hurt..." she said softly.
Oh yeah, good day for the obvious.
"You're...Nayii? Who came?"

"I don't know," Nayii said, calming slightly. "They were in green. Your sister ran back to the house when she saw them. I tried to yell to her to run... I tried..."

"My sister was always one to stand between her charges and danger" she soothed.
"We will track this attack..."
And that was a promise she intended to keep, sister's charge or no charge...

"They took off in that direction..." Nayii said, pointing westward. "All our horses are gone. And all the people..." a sob caught in Nayii's throat again, and she took a moment. "They made a big fire..."

"Yes" Illiyeera answered, unable to lie to the girl. "A fire..."
A fire that spelled the end of a generation, a people, a race...
She stroked the girls hair gently and sighed "Come with us little one" she said at last, nodding to her horse.

His home was ablaze, like all the others and he dismounted intending to go inside but his mount halted him with a tug on his cloak. He turned to push the horse away and the roof of the house caved in. Timber splintered and sparks flew and the fire raged on.
Eyiron watched, mouth gaping and eyes quivering, then he fell to his knees and bowed his head.

Nayii turned, hearing the roof fall in, and then bowed her head in respect to his anguish. Everyone was gone...

It was the horse who finally urged him to get up and away from the blaze, nudging him in the back and then pulling on his cloak again. Slowly Eyiron rose, mounted the horse and rode back up to the hill where Illiyeera was.
He looked down at the girl with an almost haunted gaze, "You are the only one?"

Illiyeera nodded and scooped the girl into her own saddle. "Yes, I sense no others..."
She blinked away tears, she'd mourn later...
NOw, now she had to assess...
Two scouts, a full warrior...and a child. Last of their race...
"Nayii...my sister was training you in magic yes?"
