She smiled, and Shaper flitted from her shouldser to bow to Arkin "A sad tale that led to strength" he said calmly. "The furkin are to be honored, as there are too few of them now, hidden away as they were...for fear of what those who cherished them did when the world grew dark."
"Yes, strength indeed" Shae whispered "But, do not forget you are human as well furkin, for down that path lies insanity."

He smiled faintly at Shaper, "Thank you."
To Shae he responded even quieter, "No, how could I?"

Shae did not look to him, but glanced to the wolf "I bet you have tried, and been stopped by ne wiser than you."

The wolf looked up at her and gave a short nod, to which Arkin said nothing.

Shaper took in the nod, and as with most things, accepted it. He settled once more on his favored perch and steepled his hands on his knees. "A granbdoise trio we make" he said quietly "A child of wolves, a child of dwarven teaching, and a rescuer of children...to bad there are no prophecies that relate to this particular party"
Shae smiled "Yes, a shame."

"Rescuer of children?" Arkin turned to look at Shae and Shaper.

Shaper glanced at Shaew, as if asking permission. When she said nothing, he settled himself down to tell the story. "The word Shae is Dwarven for Shadow actually." he began.
"There once was a dark elf, who's previous name is now lost, who came to the dwarven main temple with three dark elf children. It was raining and the children were cold, but she comforted them like her own...which they were not. I was there, a mere child myself, when she came...and she spoke to the temple head, my teacher."
He cleared his throat "She spoke of demons, demons we now face, but that her people have been facing longer...as their wood borders the incursion lands. She spoke of a taint that crept through her people's blood like the vilest disease, and she spoke of children. The three children with her were the only three to have been born in as many hundreds of years to her people. She blamed the taint...and swore these children would grow to adulthood far from such vileness."
He paused a moment, as if recalling the memory "The master was kind, and accepted the children into his care, and in return she pledged him her service and her name. In pity, as no elder race should beg as she did...he named her Shae. He sent her forth to battle the taint, and study it, and she had not returned to the temple since."
Shae shifted slightly. "You listened well for a child. Perhaps you should be a bard" she said tonelessly.

"A taint?" Arkin asked, "What did you learn about it? How far has it spread?"

"Fifty years ago, when the demons first broke through our faltering defenses, I followed them. It is like a darkness, a disease they bring...it settles in the mind and in the soul...it is no coicidence that the dark times started in the human lands fifty years ago."

with no warning seventeen demons began to march toward the trio and the horse. one leapt, but was struck down by a arrow, the next was struck by lightening. there were fifteen more, but Mycroft was now drawn and within the trio's small circle. "We thought it might go a ways to ease tensions if we walked back aways." he smiled and winked at Shae. he turned to Arkin. "Beware your thoughts. there is a disease that lays in demon blood. it is strongest against humans. it turns his heart to madness, and his blade upon those whith which he has even the most simple quarrel. I wish neither to kill nor be be killed by you."

Shae didn't flinch nor move "May I take it that you no longer need to oggle my stave?" She, typically, didn't wait for an answer, but swept her arm out, darts flying through the air in an arc and taking out any demons close to her.
She smiled grimly as they twitched...she had had time to refine her poisons...
"About time" she said calmly afterwards, gestured, and held the stave, which she secured to her back once more.
Svernin snorted and laid about himself with a large axe, smiling as he did so. "Flamed elf ain't no fun"

Arkin deftly drew his sword which had been dangling at his side, pulling up and bracing to attack. The wolf’s hackles raised and he snarled and growled, crouching low as demons neared. A feral sneer set on Arkin’s face as well and he gave a brief nod to Mycroft to let him know he had heard then charged forward to meet the attacking demons.
His blade flashed out and severed the limbs of one demon just as the horses hooves crashed down on another. The wolf fought as well, choosing to grab a hold and shake the creatures until there neck snapped rather than tear into them for fear of the blood.

Leelonan had thrown down the bow and quiver, and resorted to her favorite mode of attack, her halberd. meanwhile Kaeko was in the air swooping down on to demons and rending them to shreads with her talons. Thunder and wind took care of man of the demons, but for an unknown reason more kept coming. now at least fifty were on the battle field. Mycroft was leaping about like a man possessed. he had many cuts and open wounds but looked no where near down. the battle was looking grave.

Shae looked teh stave over with a sad smile "And for these fools I unwrapped you..."
She stood in teh center, a minute calm spot in teh chaos...and the sky died. Darkness dripped down like blood and swam about the feet of the comnbatants, even sticking heavily to the wings of the faeries and gryphon. The horses screamed, the lizards balked...then the sound died as well.
An eternity passed in the dark...then a slim crack of grey appeared, much like dawn. The darkness fell away with a gently sigh and Shae swayed a moment on her feet. Then she carefully rewrapped the stave in felt, felt spelled to hide the magic of it's existance from the demons.
"Tend your wounds" she said quietly, sitting down and laying her forehead on the ground.

The darkness was alarming, Arkin and his two companions sounding out in fear but found thier cries suddenly deafened and the world completely black. As the darkness lifted they quickly moved to eachother, keeping a weary eye on Shae.
They settled down, looking one another over but watching her closely. Ever now and again the wolf would growl low at her and the horse would stamp restlessly. Arkin felt much the same way but remained silent, constantly running a hand over the back of his neck in an effort to push down the raised hairs there. Like the animals he was highly attuned to the natural world and its makings, what she had done was not natural and all three were suddenly very disturbed by her presence and power.
