Shaper, Svernin, and Gongrol all stared at teh staff a moment, two sets of eyes leaving it to look into the woods oddly. "Yes...it is." Gongrol said evenly.
(Travel safe!)

"You're not just going to leave it there are you?" Arkin asked, walking off to the side of Shae.

"I did not lie when I quoted. Teh staves choose...and they bind. Through blood and trial. It will no more leave me than I will it. When it is done proving a point, it shall once more rejoin me."

Arkin nodded his understanding, looking to the trail ahead. "And you said there was another in the crypt? What happens if that one or any of the others do not choose anyone from our group?"

"Any who dare touch them without being called forth to do so will most likely die, not from a desire to harm, but simply because they are not suited to handle such energies...should none of this group be called...I return for another...and another..." her voice drifted off onto an almost defeated tone.

"That's a fairly...bleak destiny. What about the prophecy? Or prophecies rather. Why do your's and Mycroft's seem to differ?"

"Human's, no offense, have a habit of changing thing. Prehaps to make them fit verse better, perhaps to see themselves in it...regardless of reason, the words themselves alter over time, and some things are lost."
She snapped hjer head around, seeing something drift through the trees, then stilled as she identified the flier as Shaper "I am not saying that mine is pure, but it is...less altered."

"None taken," he replied, "that sounds about right. But, what do you think it will mean. For this quest?"
The wolf turned his head to follow the movement but seemed unalarmed so Arkin ignored it.

"I place no hopes on this or any other Quest" she answered honestly. "The prophecy never mentions a date or time, or promises that the first will succeed. It simply says eight champions will arise..."
She smiled slightly as Shaper landed on her shoulder once more "...and the words of their people, that name the people of his group champions...are just that. Words. I, trust the staves"
Shaper settled himself and touched her lips for a moment "Lady, that was a deft summation...and yet I follow you." he promised with a smile.

Arkin shook his head, "Such a depressing thought, all of it. But, the consequences of complete failure are even worse so we shall continue on as well."

Shae sighed "If you seek optimism, ask the light elf, she would be better at it" she admitted.

"No, I'd prefer to just ask him," Arkin replied and indicated the horse. "He's about as optomistic as they come, and probably a lot better conversation wise than the other." The horse straightened proudly and seemed to smile.

She seemed to smile slighly, nodding to the horse "It has been long and away soince hte humans last saw a furkin...in kinder times you would be termed a druid and afforded respect. Tell me, how came you unto this path?"

Arkin looked at Shae then focused on the path ahead, speaking with a steady voice that hid much of what he felt. "When I was very young the village I was born in was attacked by another and as the people fled there I was abandoned in the hills. Left behind to make travel quicker for the others. Barcon's pack found me and took me in."
"At first they tried several times to return me to my own kind, but none would have me. So, the wolves and forest creatures raised me. Doing the best they could the way they knew how and putting me on a path that I hope is good.
"And so if it appears I have a certain...disliking of humans its because of this. The furkin were the ones who found kindness enough to care for a lonely child, not man. Had my fate been left up to man I would have died an abandoned infant. As it is I live a far stronger and more keen sensed man, hopefully one who will accomplish something before my time is through."
